The most efficient and powerful way to lift something over your head is by using the muscles called the serrates anterior on the sides of your ribs, as opposed to the muscles in the neck. The habitual use of the neck when lifting the arm is related to many problems including shoulder impingement and stiffness in the neck. The purpose of the drills that follow is to teach you the proper way to press, which eventually leads to the correct way to do a military press as well as handstands. Start at the beginning, and progress through the drills as your own pace.
