The Wind-Up refers to a combination of two movements of the shoulders and the corresponding movements of the thoracic spine and neck. The first movement we call an uppercut, which is a rotational motion of the spine with a press with one of the arms. The second motion we call a backhand, which finishes with a side-bending motion and corresponds with a lift of the arm. This wind-up occurs occurs in throwing, pitching, volleyball hitting, and the swinging in golf and baseball.
