A major factor in most athletic events is the management of energy. You can go all out for very short periods of time, and spend a big percentage of the time cruising. Your immune system is subject to the same limitations in terms of energy which is why your fitness is the key to immune health. Learning/memory, etc all function in the same way. All information coming in or all blocking out of information require energy. Having the right training schedule is the key to learning.
