This drill is best understood when you start with the side-to-side balance drill. During the side-to-side balance drill, the hip on the weight bearing leg is basically bracing. You are going to learn to let go of the bracing by turning and then letting the front hip reach for the ground. This is the most important movement for getting mobility back in the weight-bearing hip. Once you are able to do this, you will next learn to let the lead leg help you with the turning. Next, you will learn to learn to delay the arching of the back, and at that point you can do the actual ballet drill.
